Piyali Kundu-Veldhoven, MS, LCSW
Psychotherapy | Psychoanalysis

Piyali Kundu-Veldhoven is a licensed psychotherapist working with adults and adolescents in New York City. She is affiliated with Pulsion Institute, where she is completing her formation in psychoanalysis. She is a clinical supervisor at Rose Hill Psychological Services. Piyali also serves as a public member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology's (ACOG) Editorial Board for Patient Education.

She is experienced in working with patients suffering from depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, somatic illness including chronic pain and recovery from catastrophic health experiences, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, eating disorders, and addictions. In working with adolescents, Piyali maintains a close relationship to caregivers while providing an explorative space for the young person. Her approach to therapy is to explore the inner drives, motivations, conflicts, and entrenched narratives that hinder abilities to cope with life’s difficulties and connect with others. Sessions with her facilitate a stronger sense of one's subjectivity, developing curiosity about self and others, and understanding one's patterns and desires to foster self-esteem and acceptance.
Piyali has lived abroad and been a "foreigner" for much of her life and is committed to working with patients to deepen their own understanding of and feelings around "otherness", especially in times of life transitions from puberty through adulthood, in relationships, career, parenting, and with grief and loss.

Piyali has a Masters of Social Work from Columbia University, New York (USA), and a Masters of Science in Economics and Policy from Erasmus University, Rotterdam (NL). Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Piyali was a management consultant and global health professional, working across Europe, western Asia, and India.
